Design a unique 17” platter in just two hours! You will be guided in preparing your platter and we will provide all the materials and tools needed for your special work of art. These pieces will be fired and picked up at a later date. No prior glass cutting experience needed. FOR YOUR SAFETY NO OPEN TOE SHOES ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM. NO SANDALS. NO FLIP FLOPS.
In the Sugar Skull class, Sam will teach how to make decorative sugar skull beads using the techniques learned in Beadmaking I. Students are required to take the Beadmaking I class prior to taking the Sugar Skull class. Each participant will have an individual workstation set up with a Hot Head Torch, tools and all the glass needed for the class.
Once again, Nina “Sam” Hibler will be in the McAllen Stained Glass studio to teach the ancient art form of Glass Beadmaking. Sam will teach Beadmaking I and Sugar Skulls. The Beadmaking I class introduces the student to torch work fundamentals and the making of glass beads using these techniques. Students will explore the art of making various glass beads as well as safety and studio set-up. Students will make and take home several beads including donut beads, cylinder beads, textured beads, round beads and dichroic glass beads. Decorative techniques such as dots, the use of stringer and frit will also be introduced.
Sam’s handmade glass beads and jewelry will be available for sale during ARTWALK from 6-9 PM.
